An abortion is the expulsion of an embryo
or fetus before it is viable outside the
uterus, this is the 28th week after
conception in humans. Spontanious abortion
or miscarriage, may be caused by the death
of the fetus due to a abnormality, disease
or trauma to the expectant mother.
Abortion has been practiced for many years
as a form of BIRTH_CONTROL. In the 19th
century the Roman Cathlic Church and changing
opinion led to strict anti-abortion laws.
In most European countries abortion is now
legal within the first 12 weeks, although it
is not uncommon for doctors to perform an
abortion on a fetus of upto 6 months old in
some countries.
